2017 Mid-Year Review

Friday, June 02, 2017

We are halfway into 2017 and I don't know how I feel!!! Time has always made me feel a certain way.... I don't know. It's just a reminder that the clock will never stop ticking. I started off 2017 super grateful with a determination to grow in Christ. I set goals for my life, my blog, my career, and etc. Of course, I  prayed before setting the goals because I wanted to ensure that they were in alignment with the will of God. Goals without prayer is pretty pointless if you ask me.

Welp, I figured what better place to have a midyear review than on my blog. I am going to share the real deal here and although it is personal, I hope you leave empowered!

Here we go!!!

The Good. The Ugh. The Real.
The Good

Let's start off with the good stuff! That's always fun right!?!

1.       One of my goals was to have quarterly workshops also known as Tot Talks. Well, I did it!! I had an amazing Tot Talks Workshop in Feb and in April! Yay!!!
2.     One of my goals was to establish myself more as a knowledgeable style consultant and share more style tips and……SEE 3!
3.     I started the @MyStyleIsTotallyMe Instagram page!!! I started this page with style challenges that everyone seemed to LOVE! The participation was more than I imagined!
4.    God amped up my clientele during the first 6 months of this year.   I have styled some amazing women and learned more about myself and my business in the process.
5.     A personal goal was to go on some dates with my Mother and God has really made that happen! Not me, ALL GOD!! GLORY!
6.    I am just not the best at being punctual! UGH!! I set a goal to be on time for my day job and be faithful in this space and I have improved sooooo much!!! Lord knows, I am working on operating in excellence but the struggle has been real.
7.     The BIG ONE……..I am abstaining from sex! I am so happy to proudly say that I am abstinent. This journey has been very real and I will touch more on it as God leads me to.

The Ugh

Ohhhh boy! I am going to keep it super real here. NO need in faking it!!! These are goals that I just simply missed the mark. Hahah!

1. I set a goal to read more books, and I have not finished one!!! Ugh!!! I have started 2 but didn’t finish them.
2. I have not been blogging as much as I should. It is so difficult to keep up with it all, but my prayers are for an intern and God’s supernatural strength.
3. Networking!!! UGH! I am not a huge fan of networking and I have to do better. I am that girl who would much rather stay at home than be at an event eating free cupcakes and exchanging fancy overrated business cards. :/
4. I want to be healthier, and I am determined to make healthier choices. These did not happen as much as I would have liked the top of 2017.
5.    I am determined to take a class at my church before the year is out! Didn’t happen the first half of the year, so I am committing to the 2nd half.
6.   I thought I would be further along in some other areas but I am learning more about balance and self-care.

The Real
So, there’s my short and honest mid-year review. Throughout it all God has truly kept me!! God has helped me obtain the good and navigate through the ugh. Being transparent is not always easy, but it is truly powerful. I pray that you have taken or will take some time to do a midyear review.

Here are 5 quick tips to keep in mind as you plan out the next 6 months.

  1. Pray for direction first. You don’t want to be going left and God is saying go right. Be still and HEAR the direction of the LORD first and foremost.
  2. Pray for strategy. Ask God how HE would like for you to execute these goals.
  3. Be honest and set small goals. We have to be honest with ourselves and in our prayers. We must be realistic in order to properly achieve these goals.
  4. Remember to be flexible and graceful towards yourself. We are not perfect…..life happens. See my UGH section above.
  5. Be open to God wrecking those plans and giving you new ones. PERIOD. We don't want to get so consumed with hitting goals that we lose sight of purpose. God's purpose for our lives trumps all.  PERIOD.
Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21

May the rest of your 2017 be MORE than you can imagine!!!

My beautiful dress is from the awesome site I have talked about plenty of times on here Eshakti! What I love about this site is that you can customize your pieces! I opted for this denim dress to be sleeveless and I paired it with a sheer shirt for the perfect look for me!
